I'm wondering whether the same applies to PCMCIA / Cardbus. Particularly, Echo Indigo I/O vs MOTU Firewire Ultralite. Many analog ins and outs are not needed, and I'm not asking about which is a better value for features or even quality. Can anybody explain to me the difference between the two when it comes to their relative advantages/disadvantages - particularly the processor power they save, and other core aspects of how they process audio?

THEN... do you think the difference between Echo Indigo I/O and Firewire MOTU Ultralite is worth the extra $$ to go for the MOTU?
